About Ybra
Charisma. Integrity. passion for culture.
“My focus in teaching is social dance to preserve the true essence of the dance, to feel the music, to understand musicality, to differentiate styles and their dances, to show respect for the dance, harmony, to learn the history; to show that Africa is much more than just music and dance and most importantly to convey the passion that runs through my veins.”

Ybra Sany was born in Guinea-Bissau, where he lived until the age of 21 before moving to Portugal. He has been passionate about music since childhood and grew up listening to various African, Latin American, West Indian, American and more rhythms. He learned to dance by watching his parents and friends at house parties and watching videos of dancers. For him, dance is a means of expression, communication, connection - a feeling of freedom.
In 2012, he took part in the first kizomba parties in Portugal. Encouraged by friends who wanted him to share his unique style, he started teaching. In 2015 he gave his first workshops at international festivals and continued to do so in various countries such as Spain, Italy, Poland, Ukraine, Andorra, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Malta, Lithuania and the UK.

At the same time, he studied pedagogy and developed his own teaching methodology, which focuses on ballroom dance, the connection and harmony of bodies and, above all, musicality. Being able to distinguish between different styles of music is an important part of the learning process for him.

“Born and raised in Mozambique, I have been surrounded by African music all my life. The rich melodies of Kizomba have always been a part of my world, but it wasn't until 2019 that my passion for this music led me to take my first steps as a dancer. And now I'm looking forward to sharing this journey with you. I love passing on my knowledge and I enjoy seeing how other dancers develop. Let's discover the music, the movement and the magic of Kizomba together!”

“Dance has been a part of my life since I was little and it is still an important part of it today. I started with ballet as a little girl, followed by hip hop, jazz/contemporary, discofox/jive and now, for a few years now, salsa, bachata and kizomba. Dancing allows me to forget everything around me for a moment and completely immerse myself in another world and the connection to the culture, music and dance partner that you get in Kizomba has fascinated me from the very beginning. I look forward to growing together with you and passing on my passion for dance.”
